Have you come across the legend of the Stone-Eaters? These abstract creatures lived in the imaginations of the people of Tbilisi, Georgia, and were known for their peculiar behaviors and ability to change color. Initially, they were intangible beings without a specific appearance, but that changed in 2013 when a young design student, Masho Margishvili, discovered the first Stone Eater’s face in her sketchbook. This led to the emergence of more Stone Eaters in her drawings.

Check out the early sketches of them:

One day, a group of creatures from Masholand approached Masho and convinced her to follow them to an illuminated yellow door. She hesitantly pulled the handle and upon opening the door, was met with a brilliant light. Once her eyes adjusted, she saw an endless surface floating in a white, airy space. This was Masholand — a parallel universe filled with diverse creatures known as Masholanders.

Masho was instantly enamored with this fantastic world and soon considered it her second home. She was filled with inspiration and positive energy every day and as time passed, her imagination flourished and her vision became clearer. Gradually, the entire Masholand started revealing itself to her, allowing her to experience the diversity of its creatures, including the enigmatic Stone Eaters.

“A brilliant light momentarily blinded her, but then she caught sight of a seemingly endless surface floating in a sea of white air. This was Masholand.”

Masho has made it her mission to bring every Stone-Eater to life through her illustrations and share them with the world. Although her project is still ongoing, she has agreed to share a few of their stories with us.
